Adventures in the Dragons Realm chapter three "The Road to Herohood begins" by Lord Dizzy edited by Eric42 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The young squire made my presents know to Halder, the first level master of this training hall. He walked strongly, yet a little clumsy. I knew why Turgon had choose him as the one to be the first fighter, if you could not beat this guy, you should find another line of work. "Well..What do we have here?" ask Halder, as he looked me over. "So another stranger come to try to get the king's ramsom on the red dragon? Well I'm here to stop you before you even get started.. You may think you are good but I'm better! Come on over here to the fighting ring, so everybody can laugh at your loss against me." We walked into a corral in the center of the hall. Everyone was chearing and jearing for me and Halder, some were even making bets on the outcome of our fight. We were both given wooden swords and a strange type of armour to fight with. The armour had large leafs swone onto a specially made plate armour suit, and little clumps of red dirt were inside of the leafs, so if you got hit, the leafs would break open to show that you got hit by the other fighter. If you got four leafs broken open you lost the fight. With the suit on and the rules explained, we waited for the the squire to start the fight. "READY left?...READY right?... GO!!!!" Halder came out of his corner and tryed to hit my left side, but I blocked his piercing move by hitting his sword back behind me, and his movement went the same way. As I turned to follow his move behind me, I slashed his back and broke six leafs at once. The crowd cheared, for someone one new had beat Halder faster then anyone before, and even Turgon was heard to give a chuckle to Halder's demise. "Well.. you have best me in this match, I doubt you'll fair as well against your next master, Barak. He'll really give you a run for your money. Good luck with Barak." Halder said as he turned and waved to the crowd, just before returning to his corner of the hall. Before I even had the chance to reflect on just what happened, I felt a strong hand on my shoulder. I turned to see who the hand belonged to, when his voice boomed out, "Dont feel to proud about your victory against little old Halder. My crazy old mother could knock him out just as fast as you did." Here was a man who was way to sure of himself. He overflowed with ego and body oder. The way he acted toward the others in the hall showed why his mom had to be crazy, to be able to put up with him. He took me over to his area of the hall and introduced me to the other second level fighters. He asked if I had choosen a field of honor to pledge myself to yet. "Well, so far, I've ran into a group of thevies, a bunch of knights, and some old guy that I tryed to stay the night at on my way into town the other day. I gave them what they asked for and they showed me a thing or two. So what?" I told him. "Hummm.." he acted as if he didn't know what to say next, or he was just seeing how I would react. "From now on, you will only be allowed to study one of the guilds at a time. For all the guilds, go to check with Chance, the bartender, every day to see who is alligned with their group, so they know who to train and who not to. The only guy who can change your loyalities is Chance. And that is if you can find his little bar out in the woods. So pick now and my squire can be on his way to Chance's place to let the guilds know who you want to train you." "Ok.. I choose the Theives guild!" And with that a small lad took off with a list of mine and the other's choices and headed for Chance's bar out in the forest.
